one office
in Kuching
to Borneo's
built landscape.

Arkitek Nurcipta Sdn Bhd traces its origins to Abdullah Bakri Berakan (Sarawak), a practice established in the early 1990s in Kuching. In the late 1990s, following an internal restructuring, the firm was renamed Arkitek Nurcipta Sdn Bhd — the name it carries today under company registration 206466-M.

Under the leadership of its founding principal, Ar. Vincent Tan Hua Kae — who brings 42 years of architectural experience including time at Peddle Thorp & Walter Architects in Sydney and service with JKR Sarawak — the firm built its reputation steadily through projects of increasing scale and complexity. From early residential and civic commissions to the convention centres, military installations, and educational campuses that now define its track record.

Over three decades, the practice has grown into a multi-disciplinary team combining registered architects, BIM specialists, interior designers, 3D visualisers, and design professionals. Today, Arkitek Nurcipta operates across 10 project typologies, from Kuching to Miri, from Peninsular Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur — while remaining firmly grounded in the culture and landscape of Sarawak.

1990
Firm established in Kuching, Sarawak as Abdullah Bakri Berakan (Sarawak). Early commissions include residential and small public buildings.
Late
1990s
Internal restructuring leads to the rebrand as Arkitek Nurcipta Sdn Bhd. The firm expands its scope into educational and civic typologies.
2000s
Commissions include major government and civic projects — branch libraries, government rest houses, mosque designs across Terengganu, and the beginning of large-scale educational contracts with JKR.
2010s
Firm expands into Peninsula Malaysia with commercial and hospitality projects. Interior design capability established. Projects reach RM100M+ scale including military and training campus commissions.
2020s
BIM capability formalised. Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK2) enters construction stage. The practice broadens into sports, waterfront landscape, and contemporary sacral architecture. A new generation of directors takes active project leadership.
